Oh, no, not another of “those” books for women!!

When I first heard the title of the new book by the woman I respect, Sally Clarkson, I was concerned. Had Mrs. Clarkson really bought into the “it’s all about me” mentality that seems to permeate “Christian” women’s “ministry”.  Own Your Life?!  I just knew that Sally knew we are not our own, we were bought with a price and our goal is to glorify God, not satisfy ourselves. I was so glad that I was intrigued enough to read the sample on Amazon. I breathed a sigh of relief that we were alike in heart and goals, and determined to order the book. Thank you!  Who else will be reading her new book?

Wonderful Resources for Learning About Asia

I just received “Asia: It’s people and History” by Bonnie Rose Hudson. While I have had children visit two major countries in Asia, and have read many missionary stories to my children, this book is amazing. And then I was looking for the wonderful wealth of links from her website, and am absolutely blown away by this resource. You don’t have to use this for a homeschool study. In fact, I’m looking forward to including these into our family devotion time.

Serve the Lord in Your Youth

Serving the Lord in Your Youth is the general theme of BRIGHT LIGHTS:  Being Radiant in Godliness, Testimony and Godliness.

What started out as a young girls Bible Study lead by a teen girl is now an incredible bi-monthly gathering of young women to learn about the Lord, relationships with their friends, families and churches  around the globe. In these meetings they learn practical skills, enjoy skits, and hear the word shared in ways that have immediate applications.  Bright Lights has been  an encouraging, vital part of my four daughter’s growing up, for which I am truly thankful. The fruit has been amazing.  I would encourage you to see if there is a local meeting or up-coming conference near you, or  consider starting one yourself!  For more information, begin here!

Praying the Word and Living Love

Praying Scripture is always a good idea!  We can be pretty confident that we are asking in line with the Father’s heart when we do so!  That is why this blog post about praying for our children, and ourselves from Scripture was such a good reminder and so encouraging.

I have so appreciated Doorpost materials over the year,  And when I have been diligent to prayerfully use them, I have often seen very good fruit.

A new such resource has appeared, a neat poster on love (1 Cor 13) that helps explain these characteristics to the kids as well as ask questions to help them examine their own hearts.  Interesting enough, it’s a passage that I have urged on my children more than once lately!

And remember those in-depth Studies I mentioned earlier?  There is one  on 1 Corinthians 13.  You ca go through their blog day by day or order it in book form.  They are $8 for a physical book and $6 for a download.

May the Lord enable you as  you live for him and seek to raise your children for Him.

Did you know they are excavating Jamestown?

I felt silly that I didn’t know a couple of years ago that they had found the original site of Jamestown. Actually, I didn’t know they had lost it either!  But they thought it was underwater, but it wasn’t and they are now conducting an archaeological dig!  Every month there is an update, and you can go watch them !  There is a great museum there as well.
